Resumen
En el presente artículo se examina el desarrollo de la enseñanza por contenidos en una variedad de contextos desde los colegios de inmersión hasta el nivel universitario, los diferentes modelos que se han desarrollado y su aplicación en los EEUU y en España. A continuación, se enfoca en el desarrollo y análisis del español para las profesiones y su relación con la enseñanza por contenidos. El artículo finaliza con unas conclusiones sobre los retos que se tienen que enfrentar en el futuro, incluyendo sugerencias y recomendaciones para el desarrollo de las dos modalidades.

Abstract
This article begins by examining the development of content-based language instruction in a variety of contexts from elementary immersion schools through university-level instruction, including the different models that have been created and their application in both the United States and Spain. Subsequently, the focus turns to the development and analysis of Spanish for the professions and its connection to content-based language instruction. The article ends by focusing on the special challenges that must be faced, and includes suggestions and recommendations for the development of these two types of instruction in the future.
