Resumen
A partir de una reflexión comparativa sobre los juegos hispánicos de las peleas de gallos y de las corridas de toros, su difusión y su transformación en el contexto mestizo de la Mesoamérica, por la vía de tipos autóctonos de juegos y de ritos festivos, el autor reflexiona sobre el poder expresivo de estos animales domésticos por excelencia, paradigmáticos de la economía neolítica del Viejo mundo, paradójicamente utilizados por su carácter agresivo y salvaje en el juego. El análisis pone el énfasis en el sistema de correlaciones y oposiciones a partir del cual las culturas amerindias han podido integrar en el ritual estos animales y el motivo de su combatividad para mantener, a pesar de los trastornos de la colonización y del mestizaje, los ritmos cíclicos de su vida social.
Abstract
Beginning with a comparative approach between the Hispanic games of cockfighting and bullfighting, their dissemination and their transformation within the miscegenetic context of Central America, the author questions the expressive powers of these preeminent domestic 1 Frédéric Saumade is Full Professor of Social Anthropology at Aix-Marseille University and a member of the Institute of Mediterranean, European and Comparative Ethnology (IDEMEC-CNRS). He specializes in cultures with extensive livestock ranching, and in games and representations of the bull throughout southwestern Europe, Mexico and the United States, having originally begun his research in European bull cultures (1985-1998). In 1999 he began to study the evolvement and transformations of practices and representations of bovine livestock in mestizo and native Mexican cultures. Part of his research included the carrying out of surveys amongst the Nahua, Otomi and Huichol peoples. More recently (2009-2014) he has focused on the social negotiations and difficult relations amongst Anglo-Saxon, African American, Native American, Mexican and Portuguese-American communities on account of the practice of rodeo and bullfighting sports and activities.
