Abstract
This article will discuss how the Castro regime validated itself by using organic intellectuals, as discussed by Gramsci, to more widely disseminate its propaganda to the Cuban people by supporting and glorifying the work of Nicolás Guillén and Tomás Guitiérrez Alea. Much of Castro’s success was facilitated by his use of organic intellectuals to spread his ideology while convincing the Cuban people that he was the only leader capable of fostering progress at a time when Cuba was, in the words of Guitiérrez Alea, an underdeveloped nation.
